AWAYLAND - NEW LP COMING FROM VILLAGERS

Two years after Villagers released the beautiful debut and Mercury short-listed Becoming A Jackal, they bring us something new that couldn't be more diffrerent from their usual sound. The recently dropped single 'The Wave' is an amazing and bold step forward from the Irish band, steering clear of their folk based background which The Guardian described as having "an eerie sense of disquiet". If you have heard the epic track 'Cecelia And Her Selfhood' you will know exactly what that means. If you haven't you are in for a treat, check out the brilliant animated video below. The folk sound has vanished with this new track, which begins with morse code ushering in O'Brien's gorgeous vocals. The video is directed by Alden Volney and is every bit as impressive and mesmorising as the track. The build up to the outro begins at around the four minute mark and is hard, gutsy, and demands to be played with massive volume. Time will tell if the rest of the album is anything like 'The Wave', January 14 we will know, whatever the outcome, it will be excellent.
