TOP 30: SIX NEW ENTRIES, JEK, COURTNEY BARNETT, IDYLL, DAUGHN GIBSON, PROGRAMM & MALKA DEBUT AS TAME IMPALA HITS TOP TEN

Things have been a bit quiet around here at Indie30 lately. Yeah, SXSW might have been happening but Adelaide's a little far from Austin, although we are sister cities! In  any case, we're not really into all that hype and "celebrity" shebang where the lines between independent and big label music seemingly intersect. It's pretty simple, we just like posting good music. Having said that, part of the crew will be travelling throughout North America and Europe between April and October so we do look forward to bringing you some pics and reviews from gigs and festivals attended.

Enough of that. This week's Top 30 heralds six new entries. Previously featured Jaako Eino Kalevi heads straight into the Top 10 at 6 with the effortless, 'Double Talk'.

Melbourne based singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett, who seems to be impressing Americans at present with her ordinary, honest and  yet telling take on life (go figure!), debuts at 13 with 'Depreston', a tale about the ridiculous nature of house prices in Australia's cities, a situation where people Barnett's age have no hope of buying one unless it's upwards of 30 kms from the city and you're up for a slow cultural death. You won't get change from $700,000 in once affordable Preston, a suburb nine kilometres north of the Melbourne's CBD. Incidentally, her excellent debut album, Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit is our album of the week.

Chicago electronic duo IDYLL come in at 23 with the downtempo, yet beat busy 'Bad Boi'. Listen to their other track, 'Trouble' here. Chiselled Carlisle, Penn. artist Daughn Gibson has undergone a transformation of sorts since his 2013 album, the lo-fi-ish effort, All Hell. He returns with the first single, the jaunty electronic driven 'Shatter You Through', from his forthcoming album, Carnation, out June 1. That's at 26. Toronto quartet Programm enter at 27 with the reverb driven 'Like The Sun' from the EP of the same name. The new entries are completed by New York City's pysch/dream rock outfit Malka, who have just released a new EP, The Constant State. We think the best cut off that is the last, 'Swoon'. That's in at 28.

Natalie Prass remains at number one with 'My Baby Don't Understand Me' while Tame Impala enters the top ten with 'Let It Happen'. Jacco Gardner leaps into the top five to three with 'Find Yourself'.  All debuts, bar the JEK one can be found below while the whole chart exists in all its detail right here. As always, all tracks are streaming in the Top 30 player.
